Vanguard Short-Term Bond (the Fund) is an open-end management investment company. The Fund seeks to track the performance of a market-weighted bond index with a short-term dollar-weighted average maturity. The fund is designed to track the performance of the Barclays Capital U.S. 1-5 Year Government/ Credit Float Adjusted Index. It invests at least 80% of assets in bonds held in the index. The fund maintains a dollar-weighted average maturity consistent with that of the index, which generally does not exceed 3 years. As of Dec 31 2013, the Fund's investments portfolio was valued at $34,029,037,000.
